The Approach and Method
The learner is placed directly into specific situations so that he or she can immediately speak and use what he or she has learnt. This approach, called communicative-situational, exploits the student's initial enthusiasm to create a solid vocabulary network, the fundamental basis on which the entire linguistic apparatus is then built. The focus is based on the student's real interests in order to make their results concrete by constantly stimulating them. The method that has proved to be most effective in my experience as an Italian teacher is based on the creation of a solid situational lexical structure in a first phase, through the use of repetition, the introduction in a second phase of fundamental grammatical aspects and the expansion of vocabulary, assisted by the lexical base already present. I use songs, recipes and videos to coach the student by shifting the focus to his or her real interests.
